2014 Coltibuono “Cetamura” Chianti, Tuscany, Italy


Cetamura is the simplest and most easily enjoyed of all the Coltibuono red wines. Mostly sangiovese with a small percentage of cannaiolo, the wine is fermented in stainless steel and undergoes a brief period of bottle aging before release. This is a shockingly fresh and cheerful red wine, designed for everyday drinking and perfect with antipasti, cheeses, and pizza. Also charming as an aperitivo, with a little chill on it.

To claim that the Chianti Classico region is undergoing a renascimento would be deja vu all over again. Tuscany, like every other major Old World wine region, has seen its share of ebb and flow, both commercially and qualitatively. Nevertheless, the wines are enjoying some newfound notoriety, and not just amongst the punditry. Maybe, in our ongoing and insatiable quest for all that is new and different, we just forgot how satisfying these wines can be.

Make no mistake, Badia a Coltibuono is no maverick upstart. The winery is about a thousand years old, and is one of a handful that can lay legitimate claim to the title of Oldest European Winery. Purchased by Guido Giuntini in 1846 and still under the direction of his family, the red wines of Badia a Coltibuono are among the finest made from Tuscan sangiovese, and we are excited to offer them at Kickshaw.
